Tokyo Godfathers

Got back from Austin again -- more watching movies with Mark. This one was his idea, but for once, we didn't go to the Drafthouse. We went to the Dobie Theater instead.

They had a one-week only showing of Tokyo Godfathers. Great flick, if you're patient enough to read subtitled Japanese anime. Another triumph of great writing, loosely based on the old John Wayne/John Ford western "Three Godfathers," and great art direction, led by Nobutaka Ike and Mad House, headed by project director Satoshi Kon. (And if you're not a huge fan of feature-film Japanese animation, those names should mean nothing.)

Nice!

I hope you saw Perfect Blue and Millenium Actress by Satoshi-sensei as well. I guess I'll only get to see Tokyo Godfathers at Fantasia in Montreal later this year :\ Chances are though that Satoshi will be there again this year, so if you have any questions about the movie you'd like to ask him, I'll try to remember to keep you posted if he does come here or not.
