Rise of debauchery

So if you buy the Sin Pack in Ubisoft's new Shadowbane+Rise of Chaos expansion pack, you get a free shot glass and Zippo [tm] lighter. The message being, the ideal Shadowbane experience post-expansion will be with a bottle of Beam and several cartons of cigarettes.

Anyway, two new classes: something like a Paladin that Half-Giants can be, and something like a Priest that Minotaurs can be. And has a Focus Skill debuff. Two new Disciplines, a new pet demon-spawn and an evil health drain/recovery debuff combo.

And as Ashen Temper said earlier today, everyone will be able to level to 75.

I'm waiting for the report when they describe an update that will add to the gameplay. I know for a fact they have something going on, but I'm personally obligated not to talk about it, (meaning that I'll more likely get my balls broken than sued if I dish.)

I'm interested in talking to you about the future of SB. You don't have to tell me anything private, I just want to know if it will ever get to the point you've been promising us all this time.

And in all honesty, how are these super classes and a steeper leveling treadmill going to make me want to play a game meant for fast leveling and even PvP?

"And in all honesty, how are these super classes and a steeper leveling treadmill going to make me want to play a game meant for fast leveling and even PvP?"

Is that what you think it was meant for?

Or just what you would like the most?

An MMO with square zones, no dungeons, no tradeskills (crafting), and only 3 safe cities and 1 small island where PvP isn't allowed, HAS to be a PvP oriented game. Hell, before I heard of slower leveling and the possibility of up to 75 levels, I thought the game was go out an kill, or farm for your city. I can also tell you that every person in my guild got this game for the sole purpose of PvP. I really don't know how you can call this game good, if you're looking at it from a different angle other than PvP. (some people call it terrible even from this angle)

I would say yes to both of your questions. I quit playing because I saw that this game was going further and further from what I thought the game was meant for: war. I guess your post above proved to me that WP isn't that interested in this anymore.

You're letting the hardcore players have a field day when they get to max level. The casual players won't want to constantly get griefed by them, so they'll quit. Now we're back at the population problems.

To say the game isn't dying is lying. I've already gathered some circumstantial evidence pointing towards UBI trying to take their name completely off of Shadowbane, mainly because people have vowed never to buy a UBI or WP game ever again. Some other stuff also leads me to believe that UBI is pressuring you to come out with an expansion to pump a few more bucks out of this situation. I guess that's business and I hate to see such a good idea fall apart.

Anyway, it probably sounds like I'm ranting and I hate this game, but I wouldn't ask you questions if I wasn't concerned about making it better. I just don't feel it deserves my money right now.

I don't know who you are, and you aren't telling me.

Ubisoft is absolutely not taking their name off of Shadowbane.

Shadowbane is not nor has it ever meant to be PvP. It's GvG. Player cities were supposed to be what you fought to get, and fought to protect. Low-level combat was never supposed to be the main drive, it was the big, big battles between guilds.

The fact that you still think about it and treat your lack of entertainment like a federal case means you care. :)

I just re-read your post. Do you think that I have, or ever have had control over how Shadowbane is developed or marketed?

You are mistaken. I don't work for Wolfpack, and I no longer contract with Ubisoft to edit player-submitted stories and Herald submissions. Decisions were entirely beyond my power.

Oh I really don't mean to attack, I'm sorry if that's the way it sounds, but I'm just curious to hear an insider's point of view. Even though you may not be anymore, you're closer to the inside than I am. I never knew your job at WP or UBI...just that you were some sort of moderator on the forums.

I'll appologize. I put PvP and GvG together often because I consider it the same thing. 9 times out of 10 you kill someone because of their guild affiliation, not for personal reasons. It makes politics and gameplay really complicated. But yeah I guess I meant to say GvG.

I guess the bottom line is: what do you see in this expansion and what is REALLY coming for the next chapter in the chronicle of strife? For me it just looks like SB is moving closer to PvE (not going to get this acronym confused). I'm not talking about the new zones, I'm talking about further stretching of the level treadmill and pet disciplines. It's no lie that pets are shitty for anything other than holding a mob or pulling.

Again, I never meant to attack you personally, just to get your further opinion on where this game is going. And if you want to know who this is, I assure you I'm protected ;)

I think this game is going to work out.

I think early adoption is always a bitch.

I think everything's in transition.

I think there's a greater commitment among the dev team to get things done, and done properly.

I think in several ways, there's more of a chance of things working out than there has been in over a year.

I think that if it doesn't work out, it'll mean that there won't be anything like it, at least for several years.

No offense taken. I wish there was more I could have done, or do, for the game.
