Why I came to Texas
Partly it was to escape. But partly it was because of Molly Ivins, whose writing I admired. Not so much now as I used to, but admitting that is a bitter, cruel thing today, because today was the day she died.
In case you haven’t heard about her, there’s even more about her on the Texas Observer home page. Poor lady had cancer for a long time, and it’s been quite a while since she looked like the photo they’re using.
My excuse for holding off on updating this site is because so much has been flying around lately for me. Irons in the fire and whatnot. Would like to say more about them, but I’d rather not until some time has passed.
Time sure passed. It caught up with Molly.
Damn it all.
Charlotte Hatherley
It’s been a long time since I’ve expressed my love of semi-punk female pop artists who can play guitar and write their own songs, so while Liz Phair is still reeling from her last kerplunk album and Juliana Hatfield is somewhere way off in distant memory, here comes Charlotte Hatherley, or rather, here comes Uncle Warren to point out her new video, “Behave.”
Seems Hatherley’s boyfriend is Edgar Wright, he of the “Shaun of the Dead” director’s chair. He directed her first two videos, “Summer” and “Bastardo,” the latter starring several of the British comedians he’s directed in shows like “Spaced.” (Edit: Turns out it was directed by Oscar Wright, Edgar’s brother. My bad. Updated the link above.)
I’ve never heard guitar sound like that before.
Five things about me
Damion asked nicely, so here goes. Please note that there are a lot of things about me that I prefer not to be common Internet knowledge, so self-censorship is heavily implied.
